Helping Job-Hunting Veterans
The Job Forum has a commitment to job-hunting veterans.
The nonprofit Job Forum has created a targeted program with customized information and counsel for those veterans who are looking to change their job or take the next step in their careers. The distinct difference and benefit for Veterans is that The Job Forum program is one of advice from business managers who are themselves veterans, or who are very experienced working with veterans!
We know that job-hunting for veterans can be facilitated by leveraging specific resources and skills which we have organized into a customized program.
The Job Forum has two services that help veterans that facilitate their job search success:
- 1-On-1 Veterans Advising –
Weekly on Tuesdays for veterans who are job hunting -sessions are available on Tuesdays with flexible times for zoom or phone coaching sessions with company managers. https://1on1veteransadvisingtuesdays.eventbrite.com
- Business Veteran Job Search Advice and Networking sessions– Quarterly meetings with businesspeople who customize their advice for veterans in special veterans’ events on zoom with volunteers who are themselves, both business leaders, and veterans, and are very motivated to help.

The focus of our Job Forum Veterans program is to help:
Translate Military Skills: Clearly articulate how military skills and experiences align with civilian job requirements.
Optimize resumes and LinkedIn: Tailor resumes for specific job applications, emphasizing transferable skills and achievements during military service. Use civilian-friendly language on resumes.
Provide for Proactive Business Networking: – Easily leverage the military and civilian networks of The Job Forum and offer meetings with our business volunteers who are committed to connecting veterans to companies and people in their desired fields.
Build Awareness of companies where veterans are preferred: Take advantage of veteran preferences in hiring. Many companies and government agencies actively seek to hire veterans.
Soft Skills positioning: Highlight and find ways to talk about soft skills acquired during military service, such as leadership, teamwork, and adaptability, which are valued in many industries.
By combining these resources and strategies, The Job Forum
helps veterans enhance their job hunting success and find rewarding next steps in their civilian careers that capitalize on their unique skill sets.
